African Tribal Art - Wood shrine figure, Lobi, Burkina Faso

This stern wood figure is from the Lobi people of Burkina Faso. These were placed on a shrine in a special room of the family dwelling as protection from illness and misfortune, also sometimes used in divination. The figures did not just represent a spirit but were seen as an embodiment of spirit. This one stands 9” high. Ex Las Vegas, Nevada, collection. Early 20th century.  #5808  $1300
