These Kondh bronze figures are from tribal Orissa in central India. They
were made from a clay base with a net-like pattern of bronze. Late 19th
to early 20th century.
This elephant and rider has great
charm and was intended as a dowry wedding gift. It measures 4” long by

This bronze water buffalo with
harness represents the valuable work animal used by the Kondh both in
the fields and as an expensive sacrifice to replace the former human
sacrifices to the earth goddess. Bronze water buffalos were used in the
sacrifice ritual. It measures 3.5” long by 2.75” high and has a nice
verdigris patina. #4003 $250
