This is an elemental ironwood throwing top from the Melayu people of the Sambas River Basin in Borneo, Indonesia. These were used in competitions during festive events – this one weighs about 2 pounds and is a medium sized top. The large tops weigh five pounds and smaller tops about one pound (please inquire – I have one of each, not pictured here).

It measures 6” wide and 4.5” high, has one ding on the upper surface and a great shiny patina – please see detail photos below. Early 20th century. #2617  $1100
