This ancestral wood figure is from the Abelam people of Papua New
Guinea. Measuring only 9.5” in height, it is very unusual because of its
small stature. Natural pigments are still evident. The bottom appears
carved into two points and there is a hole through the wood about 1” up
from the bottom that is plugged with the remnants of a wooden cross
piece that has been broken off. Please see photos below. From the
